It is important. Things like size, font, weight (bold, thin), underline and color  all affect how a web site is viewed. It may be boring but it provides users with a hierarchy (or order) of importance. When bolding and underlining random things it makes it difficult for the user to view and organize information.

Notice how this guide is broken down. Section headers are the largest font, body font is the smallest and subsections are sized between sections and body text. Bolding and underlining should be used sparingly. Underlining even more so because sometimes it can be mistaken for a hyper link.

Fonts Online Ministry suggest using are:
  1. Times
  2. Tahoma
  3. Arial
Headlines: 3-4 sized font. Feel free to bold them.

Body text: 2 sized font. Regardless, the body text should be smaller than the headline.

Color: Use colors that match the site. If a header has blue and red in it don’t use green fonts.

Keeping it simple with the text will go along way.
