Image size is one the most important parts of image editing. An image that is too large will dramatically slow down your website. An image that is too small will be difficult for your visitors to see.

Make sure you review the webFCA style guide for appropriate image sizes. As a reminder, the largest width for images spanning the entire length of your page is 600 pixels, for images in the left column the largest width is 400 pixels and for images in the right column the largest width is 200 pixels.
We’ll briefly cover the steps to properly size an image once you’ve opened it.

  1. Select Image>Image Size from the top menu
  2. For your purposes make sure that “Resize Layers” and “Maintain Pixel Ration” are checked

    Web Images
  3. For images on the web, make sure the “Resolution” is set to 72 Pixels/Inch. This is a web standard and ensures clear images and fast load times for your website.
  4. Then, adjust the Width and Height in the “Pixel Size” section.

    Print Images
  5. If you’re working with images that need to be printed, the requirements are a little different.
  6. Make sure the “Resolution” is set to at least 300 Pixels/Inch.
  7. Adjust the Width and Height in the “Print Size” section of the window
  8. Resolution for printed images needs to be higher for printed images. If you are working with a local printer, check with them to see what resolution your images need to be set to.
  9. Leave the “Resampling method” slider in the middle and click “Ok”
  10. Your image is now sized!

SPECIAL NOTE
In order to keep your photos clear and crisp, you can only reduce the size of your photos. If you try and make a “small” photo larger, the photo will be very grainy and blurry. As long as you start “big” and go “small” your photos will be sized  clearly and correctly.
